Common Myths About Fracking Debunked Part 2

Stop believing the myths and misconceptions about hydraulic fracturing.

Fracking is one of the most controversial issues in the United States today, and part of the reason for this are the many myths and misconceptions out there about fracking. At Well Water Solutions, we not only offer high-quality water storage tanks in the United States and Canada, we also want to help get the truth out there about fracking. Check out our last blog to learn about the common myths about fracking that we’ve already debunked, and keep reading to learn more:

Myth #3. Fracking uses an egregious amount of water.

A typical well takes approximately 7 million gallons of water to frack. While this number sounds shocking and excessive, it actually is minimal compared to our country’s other biggest uses of water. In fact, Americans spend around 20 times more water on maintaining their lawns in a single year than the water that is used for fracking. One study conducted by Duke University found that the water used for fracking accounts for just 1% of the total water consumption in the United States.

Myth #4. Fracking is a new, untested technology.

The first well was fracked in America in 1947. Today, there have been more than 2.5 million wells fracked in the United States. Fracking is a technology we’ve been using for years, but new advances in the industry have made it a much more viable source for natural gas, which is why we are now seeing a lot more about fracking than we have in the past.
